Betsy-Schipperke Face for Dog of the Month
Betsy is exactly the reason we chose the Schipperke (pronounced skipper-key) as the Dog of the Month.
Betsey was the first Schipperke for her owner. She was a very well behaved pup. In fact didn’t exhibit any of the ‘puppy’ behaviours my friend was anticipating like chewing.
She is a great companion for the family.
Betsey keeps up with her owner on vigorous daily walks through local trails through the forest. She follows loyally and steadfast. And I notice, she patiently waits as we stop to talk before we go our respective ways.
And what a lovely disposition. Quietly energetic. Betsey has a lovely soft coat with a sort of lions mane of black hair on her forequarters.
We love Betsey and we love the Schipperke.
The Schipperke was breed to guard barges in Belgium. They have particular strong back legs so they could leap from barge to barge.
Thanks to Betsey and her owner for allowing us to share their story.
Look into the Schipperke if you are considering a new dog.
Happy Training to all of you!

In Flemish the word “schip” means boat, hence where the breed got their name “Schipperke”.
